If you have prepared to help then please do let us know. To start us off, we are on the lookout for donations for the raffle and the tombola and for the pre-loved clothes and bric-a-brac stalls. Please bring donations to the Social Evening on Thursday 27th July or contact a committee member (all their details are on the committee members page of this website!)
Our wonderful social evening returns on Thursday 27th July at 7pm. All the great pub games, refreshments and chat and the jacket potatoes with their delicious fillings will also be available to buy.
Full fibre broadband has arrived in Cockthorpe!
If you want to have it, then you have to ask for it. Go to www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/ which will take you to a postcode checker box. Fill in your postcode, press check availability and then another page comes up where you chose your address from a drop down menu and click on it and it will tell you what is available and you can register your interest. You will have to have an internet provider who can support full fibre but the openreach website (and your provider) will be able to help you with that. How marvellous - we are all reaching the 21st Century! After last year's success, we are hoping to organise another Yards Sale on Sunday 30th July.
If you're interested in taking part, it will be £10 to enter. We need to know numbers of interested people by June 29th so please call Liz on 830519 or Jan on 860652 so we can make sure it's a worthwhile event. I can't believe that we are going to have our third Social on Thursday. They've been such fun - who knew carpet bowls on a 'slightly' listing floor could be such a crowd puller! We will have all the usual games and chat and we are also going to wheel out the rather marvellous potato baking machine with various fillings - so that's supper sorted for me!
It has been decided to confine the village celebrations to Sunday May 7th so as not to encroach on individual, national or other local activities. The Parish Council have sent us all the following details.
So the celebrations will start at 11am in the Priory Church with Songs of Praise to mark the Coronation with selected readings, hymns, music and prayers chosen by us. Maureen and David Frost (01328 830362) and Geoff Scott (01328 830940) would love to hear from you if you have a favourite hymn or reading that could be included in the service. As is usual for special days, the Church Flower Team with help from you will arrange tiny posies to larger displays of celebratory flowers throughout the church. The CORONATION BIG LUNCH in Binham and Cockthorpe will take place on the Memorial Hall Playing Field (or indoors or under canvas depending on the weather!) from 2pm-6pm. We are adopting the format of Bring Your Own Picnic which was so successful last year on the Village Green. So do come and enjoy each other's company and take part in a Tug of War at 3pm and All Comers Cricket at 4pm. Come and join in and make up your teams. There will be some surprises in the Hall for tea. The Youth Club will create some new decorations for the Hall and reflect their thoughts about the occasion into a message to the King over the next few weeks. Bunting, flags and other decorations will appear throughout the village and do contribute if you'd like to. The social evening returns! Carpet bowls, cribbage, dominoes and more. People to meet. Refreshments available. Bring a friend!

The social evening on Friday 10th was such a success - and a laugh - so we are going to hold one on the last Thursday of every month starting on March 30th.
There will be carpet bowls, cribbage, shove ha'penny, dominoes, shut the box and a host of other games or just come and have a drink and a natter. It was such fun - thank you to those of you who organised it. |
