We haven't written much on this part of the website recently as pretty much all the information we have is on the dedicated Coronavirus page which gets regularly updated (and the Hall is closed for the foreseeable).
But there has been a recent development regarding phone and email scams and this one is about the Covid-19 vaccine. There is a text message going round telling the recipient that they are eligible for the vaccine and then asking for bank details in order to "verify your address". This is NOT from the NHS and should be disregarded. The vaccine is free. The NHS (like HMRC, DVLA and a host of other government organisations NEVER ask for bank details). Often in scams there is a spelling or grammar error (there is on this one) and if it is an email scam, while it may look official if you check on the sender's address it is either a hijacked personal email address or very fake looking. If you are still in doubt, try and call the organisation but DO NOT phone the number on the text from your mobile if you got a text, reply directly to the email or click on any link given in the text/email. Use a landline if you have one or come out of your email account and separately go via google to the official website. Hey ho, Happy New Year. See you on the other side.... The mobile library is coming back starting on Friday 16th October.
It arrives at about 10.10am, parks next to the phone box on Front Street and departs at 10.30am and will do so every every four weeks on a Friday. Books are quarantined for 72 hours after return. Masks should be worn, one at a time or a family of up to three. Hand sanitising on entry and leaving. Names and telephone numbers to be left for Track and Trace. All being well it will next be in Binham (same time, same place) on 13th November, 11th December, 8th January 2021, 5 February 2021. Keep your eyes open for signs in the village The Village Show is going ahead in a Rule of 6 way!
Drop your entries at the Hall between 10am and 12 noon.. There will be someone there to show you where to put them so we can only allow 5 more people in at any one time (bear with us if you have to queue for a few minutes). The Hall will be closed for judging until 2pm so come after that if you'd like to view the entries (again, 5 people at a time) and then entries can be picked up after that. Entries are 50p for children and £1 for adults. Let's do this! We're very hopeful that we will be able to have the Village Show on September 26th. All the details are now on a separate tab under the main head on the front page of the website. Keep an eye out in the village for further info.
The Trustees had a meeting on July 14th to discuss the playground equipment and we have decided that for the time being the equipment has to remain closed. The guidelines and the risk assessments necessary to make it Covid-19 safe are very firm and we cannot currently comply with them to our satisfaction. We will keep a close watch on what we need to do. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need further information, either on here or via the Facebook page.
Sadly the decision has been made to cancel the Fete which was going to be on July 26th. We're very hopeful that the Show will go ahead in September, possibly in a marquee. Details to follow.
The Hall AGM of April 21st was held virtually by the Trustees. It was announced that Andrew Cuthbert was to retire as Chairman. Andrew was a “Founding Member” of the Memorial Hall Committee in 1999 and absolutely key in organising the necessary grants, permissions, designs and plans for the wonderful Hall we know and love today. He was Chairman from 1999 until 2013 when Alex Wales took over. Andrew then returned as Chairman in 2016 for what was going to be a short time at the helm but ended up being in post for another 4 years. He has spent a large part of his life being a guiding light and devoted mentor to the Hall and it isn’t too much of a stretch to say that without him, the Hall would very probably not exist. He will be very much missed by the remaining Trustees and when this is all over, we will be raising a glass to Andrew in thanks for all his hard work over the years.
We are delighted that Andy Marsh will be taking over as Chairman. |
